PARASOL 2005

“Parasol” 2005 Bernisse, Nl.

The location is the central court, surrounded by 48 apartments for senior citizens, designed by architect Han de Kluijver. I wanted to create a usable object that at the same time expresses the quality of living on the premises. Because of its location, the parasol becomes a meeting place, transparent to its surrounding but providing shelter for a bit of rain thus symbolizing the safety of this area for the elder person and a comfortable place to sit. The parasol is made of stainless steel, beautiful teak wood and of cause glass. The imagery in the bend glass sheets comes from coloring the lamination, creating a subtle pattern of cloudy cirkels. Tetterode glass did the production and I was assisted by Patrick Belli.
