Habatat shares the presentation via Zoom meeting with artist, “Getting Personal with Peter Brermes!” This event happened at Noon ET on a Saturday June 27th and was well attended.
“‘Rite of Passage’ is an exhibition of work from five series sculptor Peter Bremers has created in the last six years. Titles as Inward Journey, Perception, Positive Space, Vibration and Initiation, elude to personal and spiritual reflections put into form, mostly using glass.”
Video of Peter Bremers pieces currently available at Sikabonyi Gallery.
“What makes your work and approach unique?”
“As I was not trained as a glassblower, I approach material as a sculptor. The idea dictates the technique and the material to use. Even though I occasionally work with other materials, I have a deep love for glass as it is the only material that allows you to experience 4 dimensions as you can see the front and the back of a sculpture at the same time, as well as the matter and space in between. Glass with its transparency and translucency, transforms and shifts light and has an influence on the intensity of color. It can therefore mold emotion and spirituality, the profane and the celestial. This is always embedded in my work and makes it therefore very personal.”
“In a world with so much manmade ugliness I strive to create things of beauty that touch people’s hearts and give them pleasure as well as food for thought.”

Peter Bremers at Fort Wayne Museum of Art, exhibition: “Looking Beyond the Mirror”, interview by Derek Devine, Punch Films.
Peter Bremers: Positive Space is on view at LewAllen Galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico from July 26-August 24, 2019.
“Over the course of his career, Dutch artist Peter Bremers has become known internationally as a true master of kiln-cast glass, employing reductive forms that arouse his viewers’ sensitivity to space and perception in graceful, nonverbal poems about light, color and form. In Positive Space, Bremers investigates the symbolic and metaphoric possibilities inherent in matters of volume and space, as well as the capacity of glass to hold light. For these works, Bremers centers his attention in particular on what distinguishes glass as a sculptural medium: its transparency, which allows viewers to look not only at its surface, but also within and through it.”
