REFLECTIONS AND PROJECTIONS 2004

“Reflections and Projections, Light analyzing structure” 2004 Foodlab DSM, Delft, Nl.

In the central staircase of this transparent building, housing research and laboratorial facilities as well as offices, I created this large stainless steel structure (4.5 meter) executed by Bonnet constructions in Maastricht. The form is inspired by the ‘smallest’ visible creature in the food chain: algae. 54 prisms and two larger end-pieces in optical glass catch the sunshine falling in through the skylight and dispersing projections of spectral colors throughout large parts of the building. It symbolizes knowledge through research and refers also to DNA structures.

By the movement of the sun, the spectral imagery changes at a slow pace and continuously creates a dynamic play of light and form.
