RECOLLECTION 2004

Han de Kluijver started this project involving a sculpture garden at the ruin of the Castle of Heenvliet. He wanted to bring  attention to the way architectural monuments are often being neglected and lost, or given a new purpose being used as a hotel, restaurant or worse!

With this glass tower, made by Ton Janssen, and placed on the remains of one of the original towers, I want to make visible how the decay of a building starts at its weakest spot: the cemented joins. The cement that is used to build the walls is the first to give in to decay and therefore the loss of what was once a symbol of greatness, power and wealth. That makes this glass tower also a symbol for the decay of civilization as witnessed in the attack on the Twin Towers in New York.
